The Heroine's Journey by Maureen Murdock is a woman's mythic quest to heal the deep wounding of her feminine nature on a personal, cultural, and spiritual level. 

Historical

In Search of the Lost Feminine by Craig S. Barnes.  He pinpoints the beginning of Patriarchy and how all of the Greek Myths were propaganda for getting rid of the matriarchal belief system.  It began about 1500 BCE.  Hesiod, Homer, etc., were the propagandists of their time.

The Alphabet vs. The Goddess by Leonard Shlain proposes that the process of learning alphabetic literary rewired the human with profound consequences for culture. Making remarkable connections across a wide range of subjects including brain function, anthropology, history, and religion, Shlain argues that literacy reinforced the brain's linear, abstract, predominantly masculine left hemisphere at the expense of the holistic, iconic feminine right one. This shift upset the balance between men and women initiating the disappearance of goddesses, the abhorrence of images, and, in literacy's early stages, the decline of women's political status. Patriarchy and misogyny followed.  Shlain contrasts the feminine right-brained oral teachings of Socrates, Buddha, and Jesus with the masculine creeds that evolved when their spoken words were committed to writing.

Religious

The Healing Wisdom of Mary Magdalene by Jack Angelo.  Inspired by a profound experience at the cave in France where Mary Magdalene is reputed to have spent her final years, Jack Angelo posits that the Gospel of John is actually a direct transcription of Mary Magdalene’s oral teachings that was recast by conservative members of the Jesus movement to hide her authorship and suppress her role as head disciple.
